“Our company handled a series of US assets owned by European banks that were in serious trouble. In particular we had a series of assets in Aspen, CO, which were worth much less than the price for which they were purchased; were grossly under managed; and they had little or no strategic plan. A key problem we had to overcome before we could proceed was putting together a team in a community that was notorious for being short of good middle and upper management. Without going into all of the gory details, after 3 years of getting Ron Caton on board as the Managing Director, we sold the assets for 30% more than anyone had ever expected.
